Teddy Roosevelt Island

We went for a walk with Dave and Erika today on Teddy Roosevelt Island. It’s a little stretch of land on the Potomac between the Virginia and Washington, D.C. border. The island is home to a memorial to Teddy Roosevelt and a nice walking trail to commemorate Teddy Roosevelt’s efforts in land conservation. There is an area off the island where dogs have been known to go for a swim. Although it was a bit cold, Bennie ventured in for his first attempt. Even though he was timid, he plopped in a couple times and I think it’s safe to say we have a future swimmer in the making. Consider this your first and only warning, Michael Phelps…

Here are some photos of Bennie and the water. It helped that an older, more experienced dog showed up to show Bennie the ropes.

A picture of Bennie and I after. Once he was fully water logged, he found a smelly little patch of sand to roll around in. He got himself nice and muddy just in time for the car ride home. Fortunately for Erika and I, we got the front seats. Unfortunately, for Dave, he got to cuddle with the mudball in back.

Here is a photo of Bennie and I on the long bridge walking path on the island.

There was a stretch of mud and Dave being the devoted and gentlemanly boyfriend he is helped Erika over so she wouldn’t get her cast dirty (note the broken leg).
